Day by day

Days 1–3 are the core trip. Staying longer? Days 4–5 carry on from the same base, with their own cost breakdown below.

  1. Day 1 — Saint Lazarus, the old town and Foinikoudes

    ~€95
    Morning.
Start at 08:00 at the Church of Saint Lazarus, a 9th-century Byzantine church built over the saint's tomb — free entry, the crypt below the altar and its carved wooden iconostasis are the highlights. Then wander the lanes of the old quarter around it.
    Afternoon.
Larnaca Medieval Castle at the end of the seafront (€2.50, Department of Antiquities), then the Pierides Museum (€3.00), a private collection of 9,000 years of Cypriot history in an early 19th-century mansion.
    Evening.
Sunset walk along the Foinikoudes palm promenade. The seafront is lined with modern cafés and casual spots; for a more traditional Cypriot meze, walk two or three lanes inland towards Saint Lazarus and the old quarter.
  2. Day 2 — Salt Lake, Kamares Aqueduct and the beach

    ~€100
    Morning.
The flat nature trail along Larnaca Salt Lake — flamingos from November to March — then the 18th-century Kamares Aqueduct, both free.
    Afternoon.
Swim at Mackenzie beach, a short ride on bus 425. Lunch on grilled halloumi, sheftalia and village salad at a beachside grill.
    Evening.
A full Cypriot meze with local wine: around €45–55 for two, fifteen plates or more, including louvi, koupepia and slow-cooked lamb.
  3. Day 3 — Ancient Kition and the Skala potters

    ~€90
    Morning.
Ancient Kition at opening (€2.50): Mycenaean temples and copper workshops inside the modern town. Go early — there is almost no shade.
    Afternoon.
The old quarter of Skala, south of the castle, with its traditional pottery workshops. Coffee and loukoumades on the way.
    Evening.
A slow final dinner of oven-baked kleftiko at a taverna by the sea at Piale Pasha.
  4. Day 4 — Day trip to Nicosia's old townif you stay longer

    ~€115
    Morning.
Intercity coach to Nicosia, about 45 minutes. Walk inside the Venetian walls to the Leventis Municipal Museum (free), which tells the city's story from prehistory to today.
    Afternoon.
Laiki Geitonia's restored lanes, the Byzantine Museum at the Archbishop's Palace, and lunch on souvla in the old town.
    Evening.
Coach back to Larnaca and a light dinner of pitta with sheftalia.
  5. Day 5 — Lefkara village by carif you stay longer

    ~€130
    Morning.
Pick up a hire car and drive about 40 minutes into the hills to Pano Lefkara, famous for Lefkaritiko lace (UNESCO intangible heritage) and silverwork. Start at the Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmithing.
    Afternoon.
Lunch on ttavas, the village's slow-cooked clay-pot dish, then buy lace only from women you see making it.
    Evening.
Back on the coast for a last walk along Foinikoudes and a farewell meze.

Before you fly

The things worth sorting early

Nothing here is required — it is simply the order most travellers wish they had booked things in.

Best time to visit Larnaca

Spring (Apr–May)

Recommended
  • 20–27°C
  • Moderate crowds
  • Normal rates

Wildflowers, comfortable walking and a warming sea.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Peak season
  • 30–36°C
  • High crowds
  • Highest rates

Beach weather; plan sights for early morning to avoid the heat.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Recommended
  • 22–31°C
  • Moderate crowds
  • Good value

Warm sea, softer light and quieter streets.

Winter (Dec–Mar)

Budget-friendly
  • 15–19°C
  • Low crowds
  • Lowest rates

Mild and cheap; flamingos winter on the Salt Lake.

April to early June and late September to November: 22–30°C, warm sea, quiet streets. July and August regularly pass 35°C, so plan sights for early morning. December to March is mild (15–19°C), the cheapest time to come, and the only season the flamingos winter on the Salt Lake.

Getting in from the airport

Cheapest.
Bus 425 from the stop outside Larnaca Airport to Foinikoudes, about 25 minutes: €2.70 cash by day and €4.70 after 21:00 (fares from 3 August 2026), or €2.00 / €3.50 on a Motion card. The paper 4-trip card is €8.70.
Fastest.
A metered taxi to the seafront takes about 10 minutes; insist the meter runs, and expect roughly €15–20 by day.

Getting around

The old town, Foinikoudes, Saint Lazarus and the castle are all within a 15-minute walk of each other. City buses cost €2.70 cash per ride; the 4-trip paper card (€8.70) becomes a free day pass once used up. Intercity coaches leave for Nicosia from the Foinikoudes / Larnaca station stops. For Lefkara a hired car for one day is far more practical than the sparse village bus.

What to skip

  • The Salt Lake in July–August: it dries out completely and there are no flamingos — visit from November to March instead.
  • Unmetered taxis: a fare quoted without the meter is usually higher; bus 425 covers the same airport run for €2.70.
  • Midday at Kition in summer: the site has almost no shade — go at opening or late afternoon.

  • + Free entry; the saint's tomb lies in the crypt
  • ⚠ Shoulders and knees must be covered
